To save a lotta work, the time to change the LCA rear bushing would have been when your new struts went in. (Noticed the KYB's inyour profile.) How long ago was that? Did you put them in? You probably would have noticed bad bushings then.

If you go rooting around in there, maybe squirt some penetrant on the cage nuts, maybe after awhile try to break them loose and retighten, but don't try too hard. If you get them free, you might be happy latter when the bushing actually do need to be replaced.
Yes it was a chain tire store. Normally they are really good but maybe the normal staff were off for the Dream Cruise weekend or something. I didn’t notice anything unusual when I did the struts a little under two years ago and not noticing any unusual noises - this was based strictly on the advice of the service tech at the store. It’s not too much effort do an inspection myself but if the bushings are bad, I’d rather have the parts handy while it’s jacked up. I’d hate to think they were trying to scam me.

If their labor rate is $500/hr and they double the retail price for parts that would be a good price.

Never attribute to guile what can be adequately explained by stupidity.

So maybe he wasn't trying to scam you, maybe he's just an idiot.

There, feel better?

Well since you put it that way…

Seriously I try to always give people the benefit of the doubt. I just think the people there that day weren’t the starting lineup.

maybe they didn't want to perform the job, so they jacked up the price so you would take it somewhere else.

So after ordering the bushings almost a year ago, I finally decided it would be easier to replace the entire LCA even though it would be more expensive and I already ordered the bushings only. Took only a couple of hours, taking my time on a hot day. It’s amazing the estimates I got for this job - the last one was $800. The only worrisome issue is potentially messing up the capture (cage) nuts but I was careful to not use an impact wrench on them until I loosened them with a breaker bar. The main bushing was completely shot but the other rubber bushings at the double bolt end looked ok but I didn’t want the hassle of pressing in the new bushing on the old control arm.

So if anyone wants brand new bushings for dirt cheap, let me know! Thanks again for all the advice.
