Monroe quick struts on hhr.....still a problem?

Need to replace struts on a friends hhr. Read about the issues with the quick struts but figured the issues surely were worked out by now since their website still gives 172179 as the number.

Are these still a no go on the HHR or can I safely use them without issue? I don't want to mess with swapping springs.

i put a set of quick struts on my 2006 HHR LT bout a year ago....have put plenty of miles on them with no NOISE or INTERFERENE problems what-so-ever. so, did i get the "new and improved" springs with mine..?? dont know. but i did order DIRECT from monroe. so, i guess mine came with the proper springs...even though there was nothing indicated on the box(new to the p/n on the label) to indicate andthing "new".....but, now i see that GABRIEL(available at autozone) has front preloaded(ready mount) struts for the HHR....P/N 57047 left and G57048 right..might want to check them out...bout the same price, at 160 each for the GABRIELS and 165 for the MONROES at advnce auto parts. GABRIEL uses what they call their "ultra" struts.......

yup...172179 L and R.........i'm a good driveway mechanic and did plenty of research, myself, before replacing the stockers. and, like you, did't want to mess with the buying the struts and swapping on the original springs. felt the replacing the springs was a good idea...hence, the loaded monroes.

Well, it's not my car. I'm a pickup driver. I work on them and am not familiar with struts. This looked like a great option but I like to research stuff I don't know so I wanted to double check. I jus couldn't let her pay 340 to have ONE installed. I can do both for less than that. Thanks for your help everyone.
