hey i need some advice. i took my car tot he shop to have some work done on it. and they say i need new rear shocks. and its going to cost $300 for parts and labor. is that a decent price?

 

Unless he is selling shocks for $125.00 each something's not right. Rear shocks on our cars are very easy to replace. Wheel comes off - bolt on top and bottom of shocks. Pretty simple and can be done with basic tools.

 

yeah just went and bought a pair of shocks. got 1 1/2 on. then stripped a bolt so waiting for girlfriend to get here to go to lowes and find a new bolt. or the junk yard to get it for $10... damn con men..

 

hey, make sure you keep an eye on that stripped out bolt. i did the same to mine, and it worked it's way out three times while i was driving. kinda scary when you're cruisin and the bottom falls out. i ended up drilling out the mounting hole, and putting a longer bolt through with a nut to hold it in place. good luck man, later.

Put a floor jack under the rear beam so you can line it up with the shock. That should help prevent cross threading.

& If you are concerned about the stripped one, get a longer bolt, long enough to put Nut on the end & use Loc-Tite..

Does anyone have a how-to or maybe some pictures of changing out the rear shocks. I too was told I needed to replace the rear shocks in my HHR.

I was only quoted $180 though.

Also, does anyone have a recommendation as to a good brand that isn't too pricey. Thanks
