Rattle In Steering Column

Rattle In Steering Column
I have a 2007 Chevy HHR LT with 45,000 miles. Just bought it used 2 months ago. It is in immaculate condition. I have recently noticed a rattle in the steering column at low speeds when I go over bumps. When I'm at 40-50 mph and over the rattle is not there. I don't know if this is because of the speed sensitive steering or not. I've read on the forum that HHRs have had some steering column issues and some users have had to have their column partially or totally replaced. Wondering if this is a possibly a sway bar end link/bushing problem or steering column. Any insight is appreciated.

I've got an '07 2LT with 27K and have the "cold bushing" noise (sway bar bushings) and it is noise from either side.... more so on the right on mine. That noise is speed sensitive but definitely not from the steering column........ It also goes away during the summer.
If yours is coming from the column then I wouldn't think sway bar ends or bushings would be the issue. Just my $0.02

The rattle could be from the column itself. The 06 I had rattled in the steering column, and it was replaced under warranty. Since yours is out of warranty, you could see if GM will goodwill some assistance if that is the cause.

Rattle in Front End 07 Chevy HHR
I had a rattle in my front end , almost sounded like a knocking noise like the struts. I took it the first time to the dealer and it was taken care of because of the warranty. It happened again at 45k miles and i when and bought the stabilizer bushings for stabilizer bar for $3.78 ea and i needed two. I paid my mechanic $50 to put them on and the noise was gone! They will ask for a vin number because there are two different size stabilizer bars.
