Can be hard to see. The break on this spring would be hard to see unless you stuck your head up there.........

So it's broke where that rusted part of the spring is ?

 

Yes. The pigtail end of the spring is broken off. It is no longer attached to the lower isolater.
Here are good springs that show the pigtail ends. Until you get under your car and find out what's loose or broken, there's not much else we can say. Tell us what you find.

Thanks for the answers this is on my son's HHR I'll let everyone know what we find out it's been making this noise for a while now it doesn't seem to bother him .

 

Before you lower the rear axle to remove the springs, do NOT forget to remove the brake line bracket bolt connected to rear axle / beam., or it can damaged stretching too far..

There’s a brake line bracket nut on both sides!


Look for this bracket
