Rear disc option Maybe?
 

I am not sure how you all feel about Overkill Engineering Motorsports. CobaltSS.net has much distaste for them but j-body.org tends to be more generous. Anyway I was looking round and came across this and thought I would throw it out there. They make a bracket you can use on a cobalt to switch it to rear disc and thought that maybe the HHR community maybe able to use it since I have read the Cobalt and HHR rear axles are swappable. But here is the Link not too good of a picture though.

Shouldn't it be simpler to convert to the factory rear disc setup? They offered the 2lt with rear discs if I'm correct in my thinking. Then it should just be a matter of changing rotors or pads if you still wanted improved brake performance.

No rotors on 2lt to my knowledge. Only SS had rear discs.

Although at least a few members did swap to rear SS discs on their non-SS hhrs..
But to do it right, it is more involved that just that.

Humm I see that now. how involved is the swap? sure there are threads here I may actually search and consider a rear swap. Any members still active that have done the swap.

I can't remember, so many newbies lately..

But one did just swap the complete rear axle for an SS one. But they didn't change the proportining valve or the master cylinder, etc.. So to me, that is not really gonna yeild the best results.

Very true. I think unless serious track time is planned just slotted rotors to reduce heat buildup and a more aggressive pad, heavy duty rear shoes, higher boil point fluid and braided lines would provide all the braking power you need. Suspension and tires play as much a part in braking as the brakes. I know my braking improved when I dropped mine, I think taking off the massive forward cant helped to shift brake balance rearward.

Rear Disks are on my upgrade list, sooner or later.

I fired off an email for more info on this bracket, just to see what they say.

Not much info on the website. Asked for instructions or a link to a how to of someone using it.

Mentioned I had a 2008 2LT HHR Panel with ABS and Traction Control.
And mentioned I had 17" wheels.

Like mentioned in previous posts a few have done a rear disk swap and I wouldn't mind doing one as well on mine. But it has to be 100% correct to function properly.

Something I will be looking into alot more once my engine performance mods are completed.

Rear disc brakes
 

I just bought a rear axle assembly out of a Cobalt SS from one of the guys on CobaltSS.com. I am in the process of cleaning it up. I will assemble it with new pads and rotors and install it. Then I will get rid of the proportioning valve and one more mod on my list will be complete.
