seemingly random power steering issue

Three times in the last three days, when I started the engine on my 2006 HHR 2.4 auto, the message center displayed "power steering" which coincided with not having power assist. Once I shut the car down and came back to it, the message was gone and the power assist was back. There aren't any idiot lights associated with the issue. Any ideas what might be my issue?

Has the power steering recall been done?
Is the power steering lug on the fuse box tight?
Is the PS fuse firmly seated?

Could be loose bolts in the under hood fuse box, they are 7 mm , there are 4 tighten them first then push every fuse and relay firmly into place , same with the interior fuse panel, just push those fuses and relays firmly into place.

Most non-SS HHRs are covered by either a recall or an extended warranty. Take it to any GM dealer. Need not be Chevy. They should address this for $0. Crashes due to failed steering is bad for business.

It was an extended warranty, not a recall .

They recalled the earlier models then extended the warranty on the remaining years.
Do we really have to go through this every 6 months? Semantics don't really matter.

The first wave was Canada only "Service Campaign Bulletin #10413", AKA "Recall"., which modified a previous "Special Coverage #10187" for 2004-2007 Saturn. After some time they included the US, then after outcries they included all to 2010 as extended warranty.

While 10413 does not make the repair mandatory it does require a dealer to replace the motor upon a customer request with no other requirements. The bulletin expired after 10 years or 24,000 km. So it doesn't really matter in 2024.

Since then there have been several modifications. And some dealers do it as customer satisfaction. I think the last bulletin extended the warranty to "lifetime" for all 2006-2010 HHR, but limited reimbursement to 10 years.

Was the dashboard compartment latch recall really a recall? They mailed the part with installation instructions.

Feel free to spend a couple of your hours on GoOgle, like I did a few years ago.
