Shock Check ???

Well today I decided to take the tires off and grease the ball joint and sway bar end links and then I looked up and saw my front strut.

The passenger side I didn't pay any attention to, so I don't know if its the same but the driver side has a very small amount of oil film. Is this normal operation or a malfunction, I feel like I just replaced them, they are KYB struts, there is a post on here when I installed them. Under two years for sure!
I didn't check the rear shocks, but maybe I should check them all?

Should I replace it under the KYB lifetime warranty or is it normal?

Technically, if they're leaking, they are on the way to failing.

How soon they'll pack it in is an unanswerable question, I'd e-mail the photo to KYB, they're a good outfit and they stand behind their products.

And, yes while you're at it, check the rear shocks. I've found that the shocks on HHR's fail sooner than the struts by a fair margin.

If you're sure it's oil from the shock , yes contact KYB for a warranty replacement.

Yeah it is, because if you lift the boot there is oil on top, near the shaft.

Ok, I will do that. :)

Check the other side and both rear shocks, might as well do this job once!

gio89kid 12-18-2015 09:18 AM

Yup, I'm going to do that first.

Any reason why this may have happened? There are a lot of pot holes on the road.

Maybe just a bad one, if that is the only one?

Could be potholes, could be a number of things, point is it is leaking and needs to be replaced

gio89kid 12-18-2015 09:35 AM

Let's say I find two leaking or just that one, do you think they would be willing to change them all out? I bought them all at the same time, including all the strut parts, everything is new KYB except the springs.

I just checked they are a year old.

OldBlue, you just made me laugh. OP is from San Diego. He probably had to search the internet to see what these potholes are that you speak of. I think we here in the northern half of the continent forget how good some people have it, haha.

Yeah, but I live in Alpine, right above San Diego, and I live on a dirt road, filled with ruts and potholes, it's worse when it rains.

Matter of fact neighbors want to take the tractor out and re-level it. So I'm not the average San Diegan. lol
