Shorter rear shocks for an SS?

Hi Guys,

I have installed a set of ZZP lowering springs in my SS. Now when I jack the truck up the springs are so short they fall out. Can I get a shorter rear shock for the truck so this does not happen? Has anyone come across this before? ZZP says this is normal and to line up the springs when lowering the truck back down......ok but seems like a pita. Shorter rear shocks would do the trick.

Anyone?

TIA

I’ve always just dealt with the short rear springs by placing the jack under the rear axle behind the wheel.

I ran Pedders lowering springs (1.5 inch drop)in my SS with the stock rear shocks. No issues with the springs falling out.
Make sure that the springs are “seated” onto the upper jounce bumper and lower plastic spring seat. The jounce bumper and lower seat should snap into place and keep them from just falling out.
If they don’t stay in place when jacked up, you either have worn parts or need to put something in there to wedge them in place.

Thanks for the reply George. I have the ZZP lowering spring for the Cobalt and they say specifically in the instructions about having to line them up when lowering the truck back down. They know they are too short but do not say anything about that in the item description. When we were installing them both me and my bro were like "these are totally wrong the truck is going to be dragging on the ground".........but like true warriors we decided to go ahead with the remainder of the install. Low and behold (no pun intended) the truck sits perfectly. So........all I need is a shorter rear shock. I see back in the day HHR Boutique sold such an animal but are since long gone.

Interesting......definitely an option. I wonder how clearance would work out with the rear inner tire. They obviously bolt to the upper and lower shock mounts so when compressed there will be quite a bit of slack. Gotta get under the truck to see how much space is in between the shock and the tire.

A shorter rear shock is still the better solution imo.

Now I kinda wish I went with a full coilover.........probably will end up there at some point with the truck. But for now I'd love a cheap properly valved shorter rear shock. Given how old the HHR is now I'm shocked (again no pun intended) there is no go too for this........

Look into 2007 Cobalt SS Bilstiens B8’s, these are for cars with lowering springs
