From their website, listed for 2008 HHR (year shouldn’t matter,) Monroe Quick-strut, 172179L & 172179R. Available all over the place.
Yeah I know the Quick strut. I think those part numbers are for the FE3 equiveland. Might end up just getting them since the FE1 specs don't seem to exist.

It’s a matter of get what you pay for those lower priced parts don’t last very long, a couple of potholes and a set of rough train tracks and they are toast!!

Why do you think that? I've used both the Monroe Quick-strut and KYB Strut-Plus, and there's no question in my mind - the Monroe is MUCH softer.

From the posts here. It seems the 172179 is always associated with the FE3, but I don't know for sure. That's why I asked if anyone knew the actual FE1 part number. However, if you've used KYB and Monroe and your experience is the Monroe being softer, that's very good to know!

Any dealer parts department will prolly be happy to tell you the original FE1 shock part number along with superseding numbers, but it's useless info in my opinion. If available, it will be expensive, and they were not very durable.

Get a 1959 Buick. You can't just up and change the car you got. The HHR has a very short suspension travel, made for a "stiff performance ride" and safe handling. Softer means sloppy handling.

Shocks and struts control the bounce , springs control the ride comfort.

Yes, side effects comfort. I ran my LS on the 16” steelies at 33 psi and my 2LT on the 17” rims at 32 psi.

Yes I've had a few classic Cadillacs, I might have to go that direction. But I'll make it as comfortable as I can.

How much difference did you noticed between 16" and 17"? Not much extra sidewall but should be noticeable?
