Warped Rotors
Warped Rotors
I have taken my '07 in for warped rotors twice. The first time was at about 2,000 miles. They turned the rotors and fixed the problem. Now I have 22,000 miles and they are warped again and have been for a while but I have put off taking it back in. When I took it in this week for the same problem they told me that I had overtighten my lug nuts when I rotated the tires and warped the rotors. They wanted to charge $160 to turn them. I know that I can do it for $30.
Is that possible?

Mine is doing the samething, excessive heat warps rotors, I haven't taken mine in yet, but your lug nuts can contribute if over tightened, But I remember early on (2006)that a TSB was put out about this.
Your driving has a lot to do with what happens to your brakes.
7K with rotor wobble on 08 HHR, 22K wobble on 06 Impala. Maybe I'm hard on the brakes, but this doesn't happen with the other brands of cars I have. The Dodge used to go thru pads every 15k, rotors fine, even the $7 chinese rotors. I plan on just replacing with some good aftermarket rotors like EBC. I could go argue with the dealer, but this is not a problem that I want to repeat.
At 15,000 kms I had the warped rotor problem.
Took the HHR in yesterday (42,000 kms) thinking the pulsation was the rotors again. Nope, the pads were badly worn (just starting to squeel) and had to be replaced.
Rotors were machined since new pads were put on. The pulsation is now gone.

I've had Chevy's all my life. My 06 HHR is the first to have the rotor problems. They warped after 10k miles. I had my mechanic replace them with another brand. I now have 42k miles - haven't had any warping issues in the past 32k. I don't buy the "it's how you drive it" idea.
I love those comments. My last truck (96 Silverado) I replaced the rotors at 110K, never pulsated at all, just worn down. My HHR, 22K and they have never pulsed. The thousands of GM products we have at work (we lease vehicles to fed & state agencies) and only issues we have is those in certain "jobs" that are just flat out hard on brakes.
