Seat occupancy sensor/mat

Wait, what??
I talked with David (hellshodrod) about the seat sensor. He is a font of information, for sure. He mentioned that in addition to the seat sensor, I would need to harvest the ABS brain box attached to the current sensor. Huh?? Why is the ABS hooked to an airbag sensor? David took me by surprise with that - this is making a seat swap a little more complicated than I anticipated.

Sounds like a lot less trouble to take the sensors out of your present seats and put them in the replacements.
I know you said you don't want to "tear into " your old seats but it's not really that hard to disassemble them, remove the sensor, then reassemble them.
Don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, I'll bet an upholstery shop would do it for a nominal fee.

Yeah, maybe. I'm of the temperament to have spares of everything just in case something goes sideways. I'll have to talk with David a bit more. He seems to have a firm grasp on what's involved in modding these cars.

Interesting that the sensor and pad have to be replaced as a unit. I guess it's a calibration thing. Oh well.. looks like it's going to be more trouble than it's worth. I can't see how some owners are randomly swapping seats and not getting errors (or getting errors and not caring). If everything isn't functioning on the car, it won't pass inspection here. So.. I have these SS Recaro seats coming in.. anyone want them :-) ?

Are the instructions you're posting Don from a shop manual? If so, I need to get one to familiarize myself a little more with the systems. That way I can ask more intelligent questions, like, how does one reprogram (re-zero) the SDM?
