OK, so our member cannuck, said he got his axles from ZZP, with no issues. Looking at the part they have, which is manual trans, left side P/N 20778307. Here is a review from a buyer on the ZZP site.
The fit perfect. They were both the same for the passenger side of the vehicle. The only difference is if you want to use a passenger axle on the drivers side you just have to remove a little rubber boot seal. It is obvious when you are taking it apart what I am talking about. The rubber boot seals it on the passenger side and the driver's side is seals with your standard "pound in" seal. It would have been nice to know I only needed on seal as they sent me two when I asked how many I needed they said two, but I only needed one.
This may explain why the aftermarket says one part fits either side. I'll ask cannuck to comment here.

I used zzp lnf. No issues. Did it last year
Ecotec Parts GM LNF OEM Axle
First your control arm bushings go then your wheel bearing and finally the drive shaft goes. All on the driver side. Normally heavy torque steer is a clue your time has come
Same experience as bold type above. They come outfitted with the rubber boot for the passenger side .I ordered 2 but have only used the one for the driver side everything was fine I have yet to work on the passenger side

I believe the SS shafts are specific because it goes with a specific bearing for the wheel which is a fe-5 suspension. When you order your wheel bearing it is specific to the SS so I do not believe it crosses over to the LT LS option vehicle.

They do make shafts for LT/LS it is the SS that is hard to find; and the parts books are tending to merge "All trim levels" ignoring the fact that SS is not exactly a trim level, it is an entirely different car.

Even the SS/SC Cobalts had different axles than the SS/TC. The SC had more splines, smaller diameter, smaller socket in the hub. A SC owner swapped out for TC hubs so that he could upgrade to the beefier TC axles.
If the axle lengths and the sockets in the transmissions are the same between LS, LT, and SS, then it may be possible to swap out hubs and upgrade to the SS axles.
