08 HHR SS klunking noise under front??

I recently purchased a 2008 HHR ss. I have been working on it getting it aesthetically pleasing and I am about finished with all of the goodies I'm going to add. When I bought the car I had a bad alternator I changed that and I'm not having any problems since. However I have the HHR clunking noise under the front. Getting ready to start changing all of those bushings and suspension parts. Any recommendations, any advice, would like to know if you guys recommend any specific parts. My biggest issue is finding a mechanic to do the work. I normally turn all the wrenches myself and actually have installed shocks and struts on this car at the beginning. Love my little HHR.

to the forums!

Link in my signature to help diagnose the noises. Several of the suspension and steering parts are unique to the SS. Installing LS/LT parts can result in a dangerous condition.

Specifically; LCA/ball joints, which might be the cause if they have already been replaced.
If you are capable of changing struts there is no reason you can't do the other work yourself. I don't know why finding a mechanic would be difficult, it is just turning wrenches.

(for automatic transmission, they have one for manual also)

I can't find their rear sway bar, they may not make it anymore. If you have a manual transmission, I'd recommend their STOP transmission mounts also.

Lca’s are specific to the SS , note the ball joint stub is larger

Might want check steering shaft “pinch” bolt. Mine was tight but The shaft was loose in the joint so I tightened it some more…..rattle stopped.

I love how specific the description is "clunking noise under the front", could be anything.

nice car. Before you start throwing a bunch of not needed parts at it have someone help you shake down the front end to check all the components. I have a knocking on mine and it turns out it’s a bad rack. Also there’s cases that the intermittent steering shaft with the little u joints go bad. But my car has 190k on it it and it’s a bad rack in my case. But as others have mentioned ball joints or lower control arms. Won’t really know to you shake it down and inspect all the components.

The OP’s bio says his SS has a 2.5 engine.
Correct engine is a 2.0
