P0700 and P0741

Hey everyone, the other day, I was driving my wife's 07 LT 2.2 (129k miles) and the check engine light came on. I scanned it and got:
P0700- Transmission control system mil request
and
P0741- torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off code.

I did notice a slight whining in the transmission in 3rd gear with light acceleration, and the transmission doesn't seem to be going into 4th gear. Does anybody know if this could be just a bad TCC solenoid, or am I going to need to overhaul this transmission?? Anybody have these symptoms and codes at all before?

Would a bad torque converter clutch solenoid cause the transmission not to shift into 4th gear?

YES, that is what 4th gear is.

The description is " torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off code", so it could possibly be a electrical thing.

It could also be chaffed wires or loose ground wires or TCM connection

Ya know? That's what I thought, but I am being told differently. I've heard it won't go into 4th with that solenoid bad, but I've also been told that the trans not going into 4th is a bigger problem than just a TCC solenoid.

I guess my plan of attack will be spend the $30 on the solenoid and change that first and see what happens.... worst case scenario, I'll rebuild it for $440, but I'd change out that solenoid either way, so all I'm wasting is time if I do the solenoid job and need to tear it down again

$30 for the part, $400 labor. You have to drop the entire cradle. I think R&R cradle is about 10 hours.

Gears 1-3 are inside the gearbox 4th gear is when the torque converter locks and the engine (basically) drives the wheel directly, overdrive.

Nah! $30 for the part, $0 for the labor.... a day at the shop mother-f'ing Chevy as I tear it down and fix it myself!

So did the TCC solenoid fix the issue?

Welcome to the site, the OP hasn’t been back since 03/21/2016, so I doubt you will get an answer.
