Cutting a Top access Fuel Pump hatch

I want to change out my slowly dying fuel pump and regulator on my 2007 HHR . Anyone ever cut an access hatch from the top . Rather than disturbing the exhaust and the fuel lines ... Thanks

It was talked about years ago... Don't know if anybody ever did it.

It’s really not necessary to cut your floor boards.
Just drive the HHR until the low fuel signal dings, jack up the rear and support in jack stands.
Disconnect the wires and hoses at the rear of the tank.
Support the tank with floor jack and 12 x 12 inch plywood to protect the tank.
Undo the 4 tank strap retainer bolts,
Have lovely assist lower jack while you wiggle out the tank.
As for the exhaust, I only had to remove the rubber donuts, there are 4, any move the pipe to the drivers side.
The tank will slide out the passengers side.
I used 8 inch slip jaw pliers ( Channel locks) to squeeze on the retainer ring to remove the pump..
The job was about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

The tank is plastic, it only weighs about 10-15 lbs.

No even, with 2 gallons in it, I could easily move it down to install the fuel pump , then back up into position to install the straps.
