Difference between early/late '08 transmission

I have a 2008 HHR (2.2 auto) with a bad transmission. I have already removed the transmission and I'm ready to buy a replacement. Most places want me to choose between "through 1/06/08" and "from 1/07/08." I know my car was manufactured 9/07, so I know which category I fall into. My question is- What was changed, and what would it take to be able to use the later transmission?

Thanks.

Welcome to the site, only differences I can find are gear ratio in the final drive. That’s not to say there’s any difference in the TCM to control the shifts . As far as I know CV axles shafts are same , mounts are same, bolt pattern for the bellhousing are the same.

I would stay with your production range and get as low a mileage as possible.

Thank you for the quick reply. I did locate the appropriate transmission local to me, so I'll be picking it up tomorrow.

Pretty sure 2.2 and 2.4 got different ratios so ask about that.

The transmission I bought came from a 2.2 car, so no worries there.

Got the transmission installed, new filter, flushed the cooler, and everything put back together. Everything was good to go right off the bat!

Now I'm off to tackle what seems to be some common issues (after reading through the forum here) such as dead speakers and a floppy sun visor. This site is a goldmine of information.
