Differences between 06-07 and 08-11 auto Transmission/Engine

Hi I'm looking swapping both the engine and auto transmission. The car is an 09 with the 2.4l Ecotec LE5 and the 4t45e transmission. All car parts sites list 06-07 as not being compatible for both engine and transmission with 08-11. However locally I have a lot more 06-07 engine and transmission options at lower prices with lower mileage. Is the 06-07 engine and transmissions compatible with the 08-11? I'm fine with swapping solenoids or anything that might be different over.

Thanks!

On the 2.4 the main difference is FlexFuel and they changed some internal casting stuff. Meaning you would need the ECM and possibly the wiring harness.
I think the trans may be just a slight difference in output ratio for MPG.

If you are replacing both from the same donor probably not a problem.

The 2.2 is entirely different.

I have a transmission from a 2006 chevy cobalt LS 2.2 ecotec. Would like to know if this would work on my 2009 HHR 2.2 LS ecotec. My concern is I know there was a change in the valve bodies but don't know offhand what year that occurred. If the valve body is different in the 2006 vs. my 2009 i'm assuming this will throw off my TCM?

I know for sure a 2007 4T45E works just fine in a 2011 , I don’t see any reason why an 06 would be a problem.

Next thing i'm questioning is the final drive ratio. My RPO code states FY1 which decodes as 3.63 final ratio. But when i decode my vin it states 3.91 fdr. which one is correct? the cobalt i got the trans from is a 3.63 fdr.

You might like the improved acceleration, but not the mild reduction in fuel economy. I have no idea whether the car’s brains will complain about the speed disparity, or if it will affect the speedometer..

They don’t complain in the car fastsuv swapped from 2007 LS to 2011 LS the difference in gear ratio is minimal, but you could change out the ring and pinion gears, not really worth the expense

I would believe the RPO code on the glovebox label. The VIN does not include that info so, it comes from somewhere else.

So, taking this just a bit further. How does one physically determine the final drive ratio with the transmission already apart and the differential out as well? So actually looking at all my components. I do know from looking at it that I have 32/38 sprockets on the chain.
