Wheel bearings (or in HHR speak - "Hubs") might be an issue. A few people have had to replace theirs. Hubs are an EASY part to swap out in your driveway - probably less than 20 minutes a side. They aren't cheap however, and the part number depends on if ABS equipped or not. Most auto parts stores carry replacements, as well as on-line suppliers. Give the SEARCH tool a try looking for "hub replacement" as there are a number of good posts detailing hub replacement, as well as sources and prices.

Any noticeable play at the wheel, when suspended, points to the hubs needing replacement. You might not notice it if you run it on your lift.

Other possibilities are a tire starting to go bad, or an out-of-balance wheel/tire???

Hub diagnosis is odd in that everyone describes it differently. The most common factor is "rumbling". Don't forget about the rear hubs, they go bad sometimes, too. End play spec on the hubs is .005 Inch, so if you can feel ANY play they are well past bad. Mileage don't mean a thing!

A vibration between 45-55 MPH, is very typical of wheel balance/tire/wheel issues.

If it is a "noise" rather than a "feel" look at the exhaust flex pipe. Also described in thousands of different ways.
