Can I replace a clutch without a hoist?
I am considering replacing my clutch myself. I will have to do it on the ground without the aid of a hoist. Can someone who has done it tell me if this is realistic? Does the sub frame have to be removed?
Are there any specialty tool needed to do the job?
This is an SS with the Getrig 5 speed.

I was told by a mechanic that the sub frame does need to come out. You can us an appliance to hold the motor in the car and just drop the trans and the sub frame. A clutch guide usually comes with a new clutch.
He said he dropped one in his driveway.

Let me ask another question... For a casual "back yard" mechanic, is this realistic to do myself in a driveway?
I know how to use a torque wrench and have done a lot of suspension component replacement. I did a clutch back in the 80's on a Mustang (RWD) and I replaced a head on my Jeep...
I will be using GM OEM parts as I can't find a clutch "kit" that isn't backordered, so I will not get an alignment tool. I am sure I can find one somewhere.....
Am I getting into a mess that will take me several days to do?

This is one form. Holds the engine up so you can drop just the frame and trans. You can even just take the strut nuts out and drop the entire assembly, then jack the body up and off. 4 bolts on the sub frame, 6 nuts on the struts, disconnect the motor mount. After that logistics is the problem.
Here is the flatrate.
