I decided to replace the pressure switch manifold, pressure control solenoid, and both shift solenoids. I also replaced the trans pan and filter. My question is; does anyone think I may have reversed the plugs between the two solenoids? I have checked all of my external connections and fluid level. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I know this is after the fact for you but the best thing to do in these situations is take lots of pictures which relly easy with a cell phone nowdays cause then you see exactly what you may have done wrong it helped me alot with my repair if you dont know already the shifting solenoids are just for that only so i doubt that would make the car want to travel so its some other area not the shifting solenoids they are identilcel unfortunatly thats all i replaced in mine so look at the others maybe thats the problem sorry cant be more help for ya

That's a tough read. You should try the comma and period buttons, down to the right of the space bar. Or if you're using talk-to-text, you can just say "comma" or "period" at the appropriate times.

quick question about this process. Are you dropping/tilting the engine/trans a few inches and then dropping/tilting the engine cradle a few more? Thanks, getting ready to tackle mine in a few.

Any chance you have a complete list of parts used? thanks

There’s photos starting at post #25 or 26, Steve has explained his parts on page 1 it’s not in a grocery list per say, but he does list his parts and fluids.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but trying to keep the pertinent info together. I am in the midst of doing solenoids on one of my HHRs. After going through my factory service manual and reading this thread repeatedly, I have a question. Since I plan on following the OP lead, I'll drop the drivers side of the engine down enough to access top bolts and the cradle a few more inches to access the bottom bolts. Looking at the shift cable and such, I can't figure out why it needs to be disconnected. There is plenty of slack for it to move. Can't I just unplug the PNP?

Been a while since i did mine but i dont think there actually was enough slack to leave it connected, plus the more you get out of the way the better. I think somewhere in the instructions there was something about resetting or adjusting something with the cable but i just popped mine off and put it back on no prob. Maybe others will chime in on the though. Good luck it was pretty intimidating when i started but in the end it really wasnt to bad and truth be told i feel i can do the whole thing start to finish in about two or three hours now that i know (on a clean rust free car)

Steve,

I replaced my shift solenoids today and just wanted to say thank you for your posts in this thread. They were extremely helpful and saved me at least a few hundred dollars while doing it myself instead of paying a shop to do it.
