I have been saying on this forum for years the the I drive is the s--t for a A/T HHR even if it is a LS 2.2L. Try it out if you have A/T. It will hold 2nd gear forever, downshifts faster, nice on a little back curvey road. Just feel it out to see how it works I think you will like it...

Definitely had more punch and stayed on the powerbands. Tires chirped when hole shotting

I use "I" when passing or when starting up long hills to be able to "pull" better and keep up with traffic......I also don't like my A/T to downshift on it's own as it feels harder and the RPM's shoot up farther then if I drop it into "I" myself and then onto 'D' after the pass or uphill trek. Just feels so much better and smoother on the gear shifts......definatly the way to drive around town.

I never used it before today. Will it shift into third when it's in I? My holds second forever...I didn't give it a chance to get over 5k rpms holding at 45mph. I shifted it into drive because I didn't know where the shift points were in I.

Yea, it will shift into 3rd, just not 4th (OD). The idea behind it is to keep the engine on it's powerbands and allows engine braking. It's excellent for driving on winding, 'hilly' roads.

I've figured out the RPMs of where and when to downshift to "I" and then upshift back to "D" in my LT. I've realized it's actually got a bit more balls than I thought.....no wonder people think these things are sluggush.....use "I" fools and watch your stocker come to life, well, sort of.....

I played around with it this morning a little on some backroads on the way to work. Definitely fun to use but I wonder what the lasting effects will be using it? I couldn't imagine it would be good the transmission.
