Same with my Trailblazer SS (same LS2 engine as your GTO). 395 HP, 400 lb-ft torque and smooth-as-glass idle and it gets a whole 18-20 mpg ...and I'm complaining about it's bad gas mileage. Back in the 60's something that had that HP/TQ and a towing capacity of 6500 lbs would be in the single-digit mpg.

Wow, thats great mileage. My commute is 90% free flowing interstate and 10% red lights and I can sweeze out 32 MPG on a tank. I will draft and if I find a good host, can get 40 MPG running 60 MPH. Normally I run 60-65 and let the 75 guys go around. Aslo try to glide into the off ramps from as far back as possible. The pusle and glide sounds interesting.

32 is excellent for your type of commute. My commute conditions are just about as ideal as one could hope for.

Filled up today: 646.5 miles for 15.232 gallons for 42.44 mpg. Can't wait till NM gets back to the summer blend gasoline and the warmer weather. I'm hoping to top 45 mpg.

OK, Hypermilers, here's one for you. My student's father, a retired Sheriff and hobbiest mechanic converted his 4 door Ford Diesel pick-up to CNG. He get's 50 MPG on the hwy and has been filling up around here for $1.30 a gallon. Once he gets the mechanism to take the gas from his wells on his property and put it in his tank, cost goes to .30 cents a gallon. He did the conversion for $3000.
Am I missing something here or are we being completely SCREWED by our own ignorance, the government, and big Oil?
I couldn't make this up, I've seen the rig and the receipts myself, he's my hunting buddy.

I just managed to get 501 miles out of the hhr ss. For my gto on the highway I get 29 miles to the gallon and about 23 around town. Thanks to hp tuners its allowed me to get more power and mpg lol.

How in the world did you get 501 miles out of the SS? I am lucky to get 350-360, no matter what I do.

when I first picked up the ss 2 months ago I was getting about 350-360 per tank. Then I started tuning the hell out of it and it went up to about 450. That was with normal driving hitting boost here and there having fun. On this last tank I decided I was going to do absoultely no spirited driving and drive like a normal person trying to keep the revs right under 2000 before shifting and not got over 65 on the highway. My fuel trims are all within 1% from hp tuners. prior to tuning they were 11%-15% off. I am going to add some more timing down low and see if i can squeeze some more out of it.

Sounds like that's what I need. I plan on getting Trifecta tuned (I have no idea how to utilize HPTuners), so maybe Vince can help me out.

Hp tuners is a breeze there is so much support on the forums as well.I'm sure vince can fix you up with something. I just like the fact I'm in full control of the tunes and can change them whenever I like to.I currently have a full race tune and a gas saver tune.on the goat I have about 10 different tunes depending on the gas I'm using.

I hear ya. Maybe later down the road, I can pick up an HPTuner to work on top of what Vince does. I have big plans (think full build) for this after I get it paid off (and have something else for a DD)
