OK, Hypermilers, here's one for you. My student's father, a retired Sheriff and hobbiest mechanic converted his 4 door Ford Diesel pick-up to CNG. He get's 50 MPG on the hwy and has been filling up around here for $1.30 a gallon. Once he gets the mechanism to take the gas from his wells on his property and put it in his tank, cost goes to .30 cents a gallon. He did the conversion for $3000.
Am I missing something here or are we being completely SCREWED by our own ignorance, the government, and big Oil?
I couldn't make this up, I've seen the rig and the receipts myself, he's my hunting buddy.

Latest MPG numbers...getting better and better as the weather warms:
623.4 mi, 13.968 gal. ==> 44.63 mpg.
I fully expect to pass 45 mpg by the end of summer.

I didnt buy my HHR for gas mileage I love driveing it, cant keep my foot off the gas pedal, in 1973 my Pantera with no smog stuff could cruize at 135 and get 34 MPG would do that from San Francisco to the L.A. area as I would drive rather than fly, when Calif. had the 55 MPH could never get it in 5th gear got 10 tickets in 10 days, got to drive at the Ontario befor the Indy race 2 laps at 135 mph.

For the skeptics, I believe its possible to get this kind of mileage with the right driving technique and conditions. I recently got 35 on a trip, at 60 mph with 3 adults and the back filled to the top with luggage. I didn't even try very hard to get it. However, 5speed4 has some pretty unique circumstances that most of us will never have. In real world day to day driving you will never see 40 mph.
