Auto

On road trips I stay 65-70 on the highway with as little passing as possible.
Occasionally I keep with the fast lane in heavily congested areas but that doesn't hit the MPGs enough to matter.
I usually stick 5-8 MPG over the limit on the secondarys unless it's way too fun to pass up.

I might be in the clear (as far as speeding tickets go) to quit worrying about it but I had 2 within the first couple of months of owning the HHR.
Another would have cost my license for 3 months and that's no ****in fun. :stuffhittingfan:

I like an occasional hell run through the twisties but enjoy my my MPGs :sun:

My SS fuel mileage improved noticeably at about 5000Km (3.2k miles). :monkeydance:

Im still only averaging about 21-23 mix. Also very little spirited driving, air running all the time since its been very hot and humid. Was thinking on taking it in for a check but absolutely no problems or error messages. Ruby has 3300 miles now. LOVE her, but still wondering if this considered normal mileage?

I found that the AC made a BIG impact on city MPG but almost no difference on level highway cruising.

SmootHHR Aug 26, 2010 12:14 PM

I lose 2-3mpg's with the a/c on.

Kev&Chers{SS} Aug 26, 2010 12:29 PM

Sounds about right then. Most our driving is quite alot of stop and go. Highway instant is usually 33-37. Im happy with that.

i average from 28-32 depending on how much highway i do. best recorded was driving from toledo to pinconning north of saginaw i averaged 35 on the highway that day.

A REASONABLE driver should be able to achieve a minimum of 30 mpg in highway driving.

I CONSTANTLY get 30+ mpg on my trips. For example, this past vacation of 6400 miles, I recognized 30.4 MPG for the entire trip (probably about 20% city driving) with the a/c constantly on (wife's requirement). However, I did drive at 100MPH for about 30-45 minutes (emergency) on U.S. 54 between Tucumcari, NM and Liberal, KS. I was amazed at the "smoothness" of the ride and performance. Only 2 other vehicles in either direction.

MY CITY driving yields about 26 MPG constantly. I use midgrade fuel, have a 2.4 ltr with an automatic trans.

I owned my HHR for two (2) weeks and put about 1100 miles on it. First tank = 31.1, second tank = 31.5, and third tank (tonight) = 33.2. Using 89 octane fuel. The last tank was about 90% highway (65-70 mph) and no A/C. So far I am happy with the mileage. :cowboy:

I've been averaging right around 29 to 31 with a mix of city and highway. I know you have the 2.0 SS. I have the 2.4l auto and usually drive around the speed limit as I can't afford another ticket right now. Every once in a while I'll open it up.I beleive they have about the same advetised MPG so you are close.
Yes it will get better as everything seats in. Mine was about the same as yours at that mileage. I'm now at 24,000. I also use 93/94 octane.
