I reset my trip and mpg after every fill up. All my driving is around town...no highway. My last fill up I averaged 22.9 mpg...the worst ever since I've owned the wagon. I've been running my air full blast in the afternoons and I do a ton of stop and go. When I first got my wagon I was getting 25 mpg but I did a small amount of highway driving each day. I was hoping for at least 25-27 around town when I bought it since thats the majority of my driving.

I may go out and check the air filter here in a bit seeing as how I am working nights. My tires I have set at 34 cold psi. I am not sure if the tires are original or not they are a multi mile something. I have been running with just the recirculated air on not the actual ac. Not sure if the recirc turns on the ac compressor on these or not, but the snowflake button is not lit up. Would a K&N make any difference other than 50 dollars more money and being cleanable.

No, the A/C compressor is off in recirc mode. Unless you push the A/C button to on..

I agree w/others, check air filter first..(see pic). Any good CLEAN air filter should improve mileage.

My 2.4 is averaging 30ish mpg @ 70 mph.. (but my tires are a tad taller to be fair)..

Then maybe re-set the ECM

Reset the ecm? I spent years as a mechanic and never heard of an ecm getting out of sink or affecting fuel economy but i have been out of the field for eight years. Thanks for the ideas maybe that is what it will come to.

I believe it is fuse # 42 under the hood (fuse box).. But check the schematic on the underside of the lid..

Remove fuse for like 5 minutes & re-install..

I went ahead and changed the air filter just because I had already bought it but i put the used one back in the box, it looked new. However I did this after a 15 minute drive home so the engine was at full operating temperature. I checked my oil and it was all the way up on the cable about an 8th of an inch above the metal bobber. I know oil expands but that seems excessive. I'm wondering if I just missed that when I checked the oil the day i bought it. I know to much oil can cause the engine to work harder if the crank is dipping into it.

Its the learn mode,,sometimes it may take a set and run to a set driving habit....put it back into learn mode and let it re-establish itself. A few people here have done this with good results....unless of course your 'tuned'

Most don't know about the learn mode. I just went throught it when I had to replace my TCM. Took about a weak to get the shift points back to where my driving style. MPG droped to 23 over all. back up to the high 27 again.

That does sound excessive.. When the oil is drained, should have the oil fill cap off to allow air in for a more complete drain..

Way overfull can not only work engine harder, but could possibly cause oil leaks..
