Saving a bit of gas

I just found out, if I turn on my air conditioner, coldest setting, fan on about the 2nd or 3rd notch, and put in in recirculating mode. I run it until there is cold air coming through for a couple of minutes. Then I shut it off, keeping it on recirc., it will blow cold air for the next half hour or so. Works best with the window opened a bit or the sunroof tilted up at the back. I can then run my air for only a couple of minutes each hour.

if you run it in recirulate it keeps the a/c compressor on . in this mode it is in max a/c mode that is why it keeps cold air coming in

How is the compressor on if you turn the A.C. off?
I feel the cool air coming in also in that mode but it is shut off. If my compressor is running when I got the A.C. off, then there are some problems.

Having the vents in recirc mode and the compressor will continue to cycle on and off if the blower fan is on. This is explained in the owner's manual.

no in rec. mode it leaves the a/c on which is a/c max mode. if you put it on outside air you can turn the a/c off but on rec it will keep the a/c on.
