Whats your gas mileage on your HHR
#52
I sold my Vibe and bought my HHR.The only thing I liked better on the Vibe was the cargo area was a few inches wider that fit my Hockey goalie equipment better. The HHR has a much better quality fit and feel to it. I have the 2.4 and in summer, am averaging 29.5. 30% city,70% rural. Just got back from Sturgis,1000lbs of trailer and bike. 22 out and 23 back. Plenty of power to haul. Vibe vs. HHR,no comparison

I'm taking trip from Madison Wisconsin to Reno NV in a couple of weeks in my 2010 HHR and I plan to do a gas mileage check last year I got around 34 miles to a gallon. I also just put new tires on yesterday so I'll see what I get this year.

HHR mileage
Howdy Guys
I've spent quite a bit of time whining about the mileage on my HHR 2.4 2Lt. It has 40K + miles on the odo!
I had a shop recommend a K&N filter. Well i figured it was a relatively inexpensive venture!!
Well it didn't hurt it helped enormously! I was seeing 17.5 mpg city by the time i got around to doing something!! My wife who has a heavier foot than i do said 16.5 mpg?? 225 miles out of a tank of gas!! Passing everything but a gas station!!
Doing the install on the K&N I found two things; the fresh air hose had big tear in it! It is "wrapped felt" construction which i'm sure serves to insulate from the heat of the engine compartment!!! It's $80 part! Aaaaaaaaand i found that the guy that worked on it last (putting an new air filter) had left the hose clamp loose at the air box!!!!!! Had a little chat with the owner. Told him he had some training to do with his technicians!! This was a "Napa Elite" shop not a little podunk 1 horse operation!!
Having now gone through 3/4 of a tank, the mpg is hovering @ 21.+!! It is actually swinging from 20.5 to 21.5 I've deliberately avoided freeways, though there has been some. I also avoided those 45 mph boulevards that can produce 45-50 mpg!!!! Stopping, turning, starting!!
It is clearly @ 20 and above from 17.-18. mpg!!! JUST FILLED UP IT IS RIGHT ON WITH DRO READOUT @ 21 MPG!!! WOOHOO!! I'm really happy! this is more like what i was expecting

My 2011 1LT 2.2 is still around 28.9/29.6 around town! Rural driving 1 stop light in town, 4 next town :O
My son's 2011 2LT 2.4 is getting around 26.4 /27.7 around his rural town, 0 stop lights, 1 next town over :O
Rural living is nice as there are few stop lights around, but its even harder to find a women who has more the 1 tooth

This is the MPG distribution after 124,000 miles on my '06 2.4L auto HHR LT. I drove about 4000 miles from Florida to Maine two weeks ago, most all highway interstates and was averaging about 33 mpg at an average speed of 55-65 mph. I used cruise control as much as possible and keep to the speed limits.
Since the weather has been cooler, no AC used except when getting back into Florida, south of Daytona Beach when the outside temperatures went from 65-80 degrees.
There may be a few mpg outliers in the distribution (21-21.9 mpg ?) and a couple at 38-38.9 ?
