Question Fuel range change decrease /increase

Hi, I have a issues with the fuel range in my HHR 2006, when I put gas the fuel range show the kilometers I can drive, but after a few minutes after the fuel range change for less/decrease the value, example from 240 km after a drive a few km decrease to 235 km just driver 4 km or less, or could be more example from 280 km to 271 km, I change the o-ring in the gas cap and clean the canistec evap yesterday I did that, but today still decrease the fuel range, is like the gas escape from the tank, so and I notice also from time to time the temperature from the thermostat is 0 degree or dash dash (- -) just I reset the computer code(even when don't show the light engine on) just reset and temperature back to 77 degree or 79 degree or even 80 degree, the maximum temperature that I see is until 81 degree after start go down to 79, 78, until 77 and keep in that value, so I would like to know if any relation between thermostat and gas consumption( bad fuel range).

so any help I will be happy.
Thanks

It changes dynamically; sit idling and watch it decrease, go down a hill watch it increase. The calculation is based on the amount of air flowing through the TB.

temp showing -- means you need a new t-stat.

Yes, as Donbrew explained, the fuel range can change quite a bit, if you have your foot into the throttle, or idling.

and the thermostat is toast, drain the coolant also, install an AC Delco 131-158 180 F and fresh 50/50 Dexcool

Emphasis on ACDELCO 131-158 ONLY, don't get a "compatible" or what the parts guy says.

AC Delco 131-158 is a 180 F thermostat so approximately 82 degrees C , time and time again members including myself have tried to save money and getting a Stant or MotoRad thermostat colder and hotter and found out the hard way, the HHR likes the correct thermostat.

Here is a how to about changing the thermostat

and burp the coolant, air in the system is not a good thing!

for replacing the thermostat( that I know is toast, very often shutdown to dash dash - - , I got one AC Delco 131-158) the cooling have now is general 50/50 but the Chevrolet recommend dex-cool 50/50, so I need to flush the radiator because is different cooling, right?,
for flush the radiator just need destiller water put in the empty radiator, turn the car for 5 minutes and after turn off the car wait for 15 minutes and flush the destille water? until I see the flush water and cooling?, right. after replacing the thermostat and full the radiator with the new dex-cool?, right?.so pls let me know If I am in the right way to replace the thermostat and change the cooling from the general 50/50 to dex-cool 50/50?

thanks
