Whats your gas mileage on your HHR

Hey, since I replaced the AF and cleaned the MAF and put in plugs, and started driving some roads outside of town, I just calculated my mileage (actual) at the last fill up at 27.6.
Not bad, and it's running real well. Thanks to the guys of the forum, they helped me a lot with it.

However, the installation of the Airaid CAI seems to have bumped mine up noticeably. With stock airbox, I was pretty steady with about 26.4 or so. Now, I am getting 27.2.
Of course, when (if?) I trade it in on the SS I am trying to work a deal on, I expect that to drop significantly. Mostly, because my foot will be in it more!

Very interesting thread. I get nothing special just 23.25 mpg.
I have an HHR 2007 LT 2.4l, high mileage, recently changed my four spark plugs for the highest quality, my tires are OPTIMO H725A from Hankook (very comfortable) I use castrol oil for high mileage vehicule and Lucas oil stabilizer and Lucas fuel treatment. I only put regular fuel. I drive 90% highway. Recently changed my bearings.
* my tires are 16 inches. I wonder will the vehicule read the same mpg with larger diameter? What kind of tires does people hitting 30+ mpg use?

Experience says:
plugs ACDelco Iridium 41-103 ONLY 100,000 miles
be aware that "high mileage" oil has additives that swell oil seals. If at some point you switch back to regular oil you will get leaks that can't be easily fixed.
the computer calculates miles by counting revolutions of the wheels. However , the tire size can be adjusted in the computer.

2007 2.2 LS automatic, 16” rims , 225/55R16.
33.6 mpg on last trip to Florida and back .
three people in the car, luggage, dry weather .
I run 32 psi , Castrol Edge 5W30 synthetic.
no additives, K&N FIPK air filter kit.
280,000 miles . Not to light on the right foot , brake slides lubed , pads cleaned, rear brakes adjusted to 3 clicks in the e brake lever.
I can’t wait to see what my 2011 2.4 will get

I've now had two trips with different tires and based on this can now expect more than 30hwy average if not climbing hills. Using Aspen Touring 215/55/16 currently.
Be sure to cross check by actual amount of fuel used and not just what the display says. You can also switch to instant mileage display to help curb bad habits.

Most of my driving is rural back roads, lots of twisties and I'm not light on the go pedal, ever... 27mpg average.
It will be lower if I went back to the factory 17 inch mags... BUT! Not because of tire size or wheel size. (tire selection keeps rolling diameter the same whichever wheels I used) It's the weight. Those factory aluminum wheels are heavy as heck compared to the aftermarket 16's I normally run. These cars are very sensitive to changes in unsprung weight. Lighter wheel and tire package is like adding HP and will bring up the mileage several digits. Handles a whole lot better too. It's a night and day difference.
