#%@*%*!!!!!! Anti Theft BS
donbrew, thanks for your reply. And I did indeed typed the wrong policy number. The Anti Theft part was told to us by the dealer. I'll check that TSB so thanks for that. As far as "no charge to the customer" that is correct IF they can source a GM part from THEIR supplier. When asked if I could supply the part they replied no. None are available at this time from their sources. VERY frustrating to say the least! As far as maintenance goes I'm rather religious about it. My BMW has over 490,000 kms on it, I retired a Ford escort at 485,000 kms, and my collector cars are all doing well!
If our problem can be fixed with WD40 or the like I'll be supremely pissed at the dealer!!!

donbrew, I re-read that TSB and that is where I found out about this problem in April. It states that a temporary car will be supplied and that has been denied to us. I'll be paying a visit to the stealership this afternoon. Apparently the solenoid is the root of all this evil...
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
The 15 year clause would only apply to a 2011, maybe a 2010.

On my trip to my Mom's my key would not turn all the way off. Googled issue and found that a little cap under the steering wheeel could be removed. Pushed a plunger and I could turn off the key. I decided to look into it. I pulled off the steering cover top and bottom. Pulled the solenoid out and tested it with 12 volts it worked. I started thinking this communicates from the shifter. So out comes the shifter, previous owner had spilt coffee a few times and other gooey stuff. I tore it completely apart, cleaned everything. tested the microswitch and powered the shift solenoid and it worked. I found the culprit. The harness where it connects to the main harness the connections were corrodid like green on copper. I cleaned it all up, put diaelectric grease on all connections. Reassembled everything and what do you know fixed. There is no wear and tear on any of the shift components and worked smooth as butter when completed. Just wanted to post this on what I did today. It can be moved to a location that might help others or copy and paste it.

You have not said what year car you have.
The TSB lists all of the parts that can be replaced.
Once you take the garnish off you can see the solenoid, just shoot WD40 on the it to soften the hardened grease. That was 15 years ago, I don't recall which side it is on. Look on page 4 of the TSB.
Seems to me if they were properly motivated they could pick up the phone and call corporate to find out how to handle their warranty. If it warranted they have to do something. You might try calling the GM regional office, I think the number and address are in the back of your Owner Manual (link in my sig). In fact, the TSB states how to source the parts on page 3 GM Customer Customer Care and After Sales (GMCCA) Phone numbers are listed. Maybe print it out for them; I doubt they will even look at it, being "from the internet".
Has the ignition/key recall been done? There is a link in my sig and at the top of this page under the TOOLS tab.
RE: the courtesy car, read it carefully, This is NOT covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty since that ended for you a long time ago.

Well nothing new at the stealership... located a used one which I may get but who's to say that one won't crap out as well?
I did print off the TSB and gave it to them on April 22nd. The car is an '11 HHR. I may get it back on the weekend and try the WD 40 trick. Now I want to get a close up pic of the unit that shows the solenoid... I will also research how to remove/replace the unit as well. Records show that the ignition/key was done years ago. And yes the courtesy car is actually just a shuttle to/from stealership. Before I replace I'll remove and inspect/clean it thoroughly!

But Going to the GM department that is responsible for keeping the parts for warranties in stock could help My experience with dealers is that they will not do anything suggested by "the internet" including from official GM documents and they don't know how to navigate GM because the directions come from "the internet", Catch 22.
If GM guarantees a fix for 15 years the have to be able to supply the parts for 15 years. The TSB lists the part numbers for the solenoid and lever, if any body has figured out how to use a Philips head screw driver. Dealers don't know how to fix things the just replace assemblies.
