2008 panel door popper!

I bought a 2008 hhr with back panel doors.
No outside handles. The buttons on dash work to open the rear doors just fine.
The VIN comes back as compatible with 6 button remote. The vehicle came with a 4 button remote. The dealership COULD NOT program my 6 button remote or their own 6 button remote to operate the rear doors. Remote start, panic and door locks work. Why can't they program the rear doors to pop open . I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE. I have to see it with my own eyes. But they must be doing something wrong.
I have to have someone that knows for a fact that it can or can't be done.
I really don't want to take it to another dealership to pay $70 to find out that it really can't be done. But I'm this close!! Ha.

PLEASE HELP. It's kinda driving me nuts. I'm a technician that has to open my rear door for tools all day. So I have to open the front to open the back door.

OK, I'll go back and delete the thread I just made from your post in the 2009 thread.

Have you read the directions in your Owner Manual? There is a link in my sig to get a digital one.

I don't have one, but I think it may have to do with locking the car with the fob (not the plunger or button on the door) then using the fob to unlock then pop.

The poppers also have a fuse and a relay, I believe, and the poppers have been known to break.

From the manual:

Press and hold
for about one second
to
open the rear driver side door.

I undeleted this thread. I think all of the duplicating confused everybody.

I bought a used 2009 panel without a remote, went to the local locksmith that advertised key fobs in the window. They had a 5 button fob (for mini van) and programmed it using it using the HHR settings -- he didn't have a "panel" version listed under HHR, the rear doors open with the new remote. Cost $35 for the remote and programming.

How do you open each rear door separately with only 1 button? What do you suggest I do?

Oldblue 05-19-2016 06:48 AM

This has the correct part number and what your fob should look like

You are HOLDING the button for a second, right? It is not a quick push like the front doors.

ericbrustad 05-19-2016 04:11 PM

I am. And they don't work. But I'm not sure if they have to do that when they program it. The dealership won't share that info with me. And I do have the correct 6 button keyfobs

ericbrustad 05-19-2016 04:12 PM

Yep. Keyfob 15114376. Those are the ones. But the vehicle was bought used with a 4 button. Maybe they have to erase all the fobs?

Find another dealership. Sound like a bunch of clowns.

They may have to download and install new firmware for the RCDLR.

Here is a guess scenario:

2008 HHR TSB 08-03-16-001B about having to reload RCDLR firmware because a loss of power kills the memory. They downloaded the firmware for a LT/LS, not a panel.

That's my thought. Hopefully it works at another dealership. Or I will be out $70 bucks. If it works I will try to get a refund at the other dealership. Kinda sucks though because the are a client.

donbrew 05-20-2016 07:06 AM

Take that TSB number with you, you might want to print it out. just put the number into GoOgle to find it.

ericbrustad 05-20-2016 05:48 PM

perfect I will. Thanks. I will let you know

Sorry my HHR doesn't have remote start, the fob has just 5 buttons, lock/unlock, right/left rear door and a panic button. Dealing with the locksmith was a LOT friendlier than my Chevy dealer (they don't care about 7 year old cars)-- I started at the dealer and they wanted $70 for the remote and said set up an service appointment to program it (3 days was the earliest they would book me). The locksmith also said he wouldn't charge me if the remote didn't work (he hadn't seen a car with factory door openers). It took him 5 min to plug the laptop in, go through the menus of the different cars, and then hit program.
Good Luck with whatever you do -- I can't live without my remote.

Chubbyboy57 was your panel a rental? All retail HHRs with automatic transmissions have remote start its option AP3 on the list sticker in your glove box.
If it's not listed try this thread

Or this video

cubbyboy57 05-20-2016 06:54 PM

It was a fleet vehicle (State Farm Insurance), I hadn't seen the thread to add the remote start. I might look into it as it doesn't seem complicated. Thanks for the link.

Oldblue 05-20-2016 06:58 PM

No problem! Enjoy!

Steve. Just to clarify your post: All retail HHR's with an automatic transmission have remote start.
Don't want someone to think "all" means every retail one made.

donbrew 05-20-2016 07:52 PM

It's been a while since I went through that neverending thread, but I think the fix only works up to 2008. If the option is not in the "personalisation" menu it won't work.

If it is in the menu and turned on (and has a hood ajar switch wired in the latch) you only need to press lock then panic+lock on a 3 button remote.

Oldblue 05-20-2016 09:12 PM

I stand corrected, George, thank you for pointing out my error
