2010 HHR and rear facing tethering for child restraints
2010 HHR and rear facing tethering for child restraints
My car seat allows for rear facing tethering. The tether is attached via strap and d-ring to the seat track in front of the car seat. I know that not all cars allow this, does Chevy and can I put the tether on the crossbar of the seat track or must it go on the actual track?
I have not checked lately but I believe that all cars now have to have click in mounts. Your seat owners manual combined with your car owners manual should answer your question.

From the 2010 owners manual:
Never do this.
Children who are up against, or very close to, any
airbag when it inflates can be seriously injured or
killed. Never put a rear-facing child restraint in
the right front seat. Secure a rear-facing child
restraint in a rear seat. It is also better to secure a
forward-facing child restraint in a rear seat. If you
must secure a forward-facing child restraint in the
right front seat, always move the front passenger
seat as far back as it will go.
To help reduce the chance of injury, the child restraint
must be secured in the vehicle. Child restraint systems
must be secured in vehicle seats by lap belts or the
lap belt portion of a lap-shoulder belt, or by the LATCH
system.

"LATCH" is the government mandated child seat system I was thinking of.
Have you read every word of the seat instruction book? I bet there is a mention of LATCH.
I bet that if you went to your local police or fire station you would find a person whose job is to instruct on the installation of child safety seats. They got them in my county.

I don't mean LATCH or forward facing tethers (which are located in the cargo area), this tether comes from the top of the carseat and mounts to the front seat track, but not all cars allow this type of optional tethering.
