I’m way farther north and don’t get stuck , unless I try to drive thru a snow drift. I do install winter tires for better traction.

So cold the keyboards frozen too?!
The ice is tough but a day or so and some ingenuity, must be freed by now?
Sand and some salt.
Just don't want to get so aggressive as to slide into objects that dent fenders and body panels.

Burlap bags works pretty well wrapped around tires and tie wired if you take it easy

My old first year HHR normally would not spin a wheel on ice at all to get unstuck. Any spinning of the wheels resulted in it automatically backing off, or cutting the throttle completely. It would sit on an icy hill, and refuse to spin the tires. I evenually discovered that pulling up on the hand-brake (emerg brake) just enough to activate the light on the dash that indicated that the brake was active, would allow one to throttle up and spin the tires and get out of a stuck situation.

I even had to do that in a snowstorm going over Snoqualmie Pass outside of Seattle, even while having cable chains on. Without activating the hand brake lightly, the top speed was usually 30mph and kept slowing down even further - was a bit nervewracking with everyone passing me.

Might help someone ...

Ive had great luck with these tires, had them on my 08 and now the 09, just my drive is a steep grade so it makes it more difficult, Im surprised as this is the first time Ive been stuck and the tires were replaced just about 2 months ago so great threads on them.

Ive tried everything, sticks and sawdust.... no traction at all. I tried creeping in Low and 1st, just spins.
