Still stuck but at least got a ride to the store by a neighbor last night. Tried to get out again today and Nope, Nada,,,,, Snowed some more last night and when I turned the wipers on they did a swipe and stopped??? tried hi/lo.... nothing. S Thought it popped the fuse ( checked both in console and under hood ) fuses were good???? So broomed off the windshield and the wipers went down and started working again, not sure why they wouldnt work unless they had to go all the way down to do so, never had a vehicle do this before... HHRs are a bit Anal !

Looks like you are fighting ice and gravity. salt and sand are probably your best bet, and patience. As soon as the tires start spinning and get hot, you are done.Unless they get hot enough to melt the ice but that gets tough on tires. Snow/ice tires are good for winter, but usually wear quickly in warmer months.
sounds like it is aa waiting game now.

Yeah that steep grade is the issue for sure. Tonight I decided to make a salt brine in the morning with hot water in a sprayer and go out and spray the driveway and see if that along with the afternoon sun will melt it.... worth a try anyway !

hopefully that will do the trick.A salt brine will work if the temp is above 15 degrees (I think) and be careful of those tres and other obstacles that tend to jump out at your baby! Good Luck!!

If it gets too nasty around here, I take a different vehicle since I an lucky enough to have a few 4wd ones I can use. Not much stops my Trailblazer, if it gets too bad, I dig out the Land Rover. Never been stuck in that, and I have had it in mud/waterup to the door handleswithout getting stuck. But that is a bit extreme and it doesn't get driven much once I got my HHR, I was driving it 48 miles each way to work and back, gas was a bit expensive but I was rarely late. The second week in my HHR, there was less than an inch of snow, I spun out and took out a road sign driving to work. Next day I got snow tirs and it did much better. Not much you can do on solid ice and a hill.

Sweet pickup!!

My 1999 Land Rover Discovery 1 last year for the disco 1 series.. does great even with the all season tires in mud and snow.... pretty good for a Minnesota vehicle.

People that live where is snows frequently know to lift the wipers off the windshield before the storm. Otherwise, they stick or get worn by the ice. I learned the hard way.
