4T45E info…

So a friend of mine has a Saturn Vue….I know, not an HHR but pretty sure it has the same 4T45E transmission and since all you guy are my best source for info thought I would get opinions.
So the car started making a noise in right front…took to shop…they declared wheel hub assy and put one on it…,no change…shop manager told her since didnt fix it, no charge for part nor labor. She took it to another shop later and they declared bearing in transmission on passenger side bad….saying slack between bearing and transmission housing, however they never removed that cv axle so my question was how could you tell? Guy said because from under the car the cv axle where goes into transmission has play in it…( I assume radial play).

Following questions:

can stub axle be causing it?
Is the bearing on passenger side prone to go bad?
If so can it be changed with out disassembling the transmission ?

I dont know if the seal is leaking on that side.
The car has less than 200xxx

Thanks

Most likely simply a cv axle issue. What year Vue?

Axle nut is larger,

Our HHR 4T45E axle nut is a 30 mm I searched Detroit axle site most are out of stock, non are listed as don’t require the stub shaft. I have that axle here for the hhr

They list the Saturn Ion but not the Vue

https://www.detroitaxle.com/part/200...-axle/986m_ax/

This is the axle I have .

Now there is a kit for stabilizing the axle and eliminating the cup from the OEM axle , I’ll investigate and see if the Saturn is compatible.

The inner end of the axle is a tri-pot that slides in and out a couple of inches. My guess is some dummy thought it was a CV bearing on both ends.
No, the stub does not wear out. I?t simply a way to make the axles be the same length.

Do we know if this is true on Saturn Vue?
