[QUOTE=moose-e-man].

.......If you run Chevron's 91 octane you get the additive "Tecrolene". It has proven to keep the injectors clean as well as the combustion chambers.
Less deposits......

Hey moose-e-man....

According to GM's TSB, ANY top-tier gasoline will provide the necessary additive to keep the engine, i.e., valves, injectors clean.

Chevron is one of the recommended gasolines containing the additive. It comes in all grades, not just "premium".....at least in my state and others that I have traveled.

I'm partial to Shell Vpower myself because our Chevron stations around here are fairly run down it seems.

You know, I thought I would post this TSB. It, somewhat, fits into this thread and most people are not aware of the bulletin. Moderators, if I am incorrect in this post, please move it elsewhere.

Shell V-Power here too. Personally, I won't run Chevron techron unless it's an absolute emergency. I had a Jeep with a 401 V8 in it that was pretty built back in '96. After a month of running on brand new plugs with Techron, I pulled them and found lots of yellow deposits - never again! Put some new Autolites in there and ran on Shell for a month - nice and clean.

I'm sold on Shell V-Power for now.

My opinion:
i think the compresion ratio and temperture the engine runs at probably just justifies the 91 octane recommendation. Chevy probably made it optional cause the pinging encountered is minor and will take many miles before engine damage shows up;undoubtably after the warrantee is expired.
