about to turn 200k...keep & maintain or sell & move on
 

I have a 2007, 2LT, 2.4L, "spring special edition". I've had "Frosty" for about 3.5 years and am about to turn 200k miles. Per carfax, I'm the second owner. Of course, I have no idea of its previous life and maintenance; or perhaps the lack thereof, but thus far, the past owner was fairly nice to it and or maintained at least the basics. I've already (some more than once) replaced just about all the front end components; bushings, links, bars, wheel hubs and bearings, struts, etc., to include the steering column and shaft. Given the infamous brake issues associated with the HHR, I've also (more than once) replaced the pads, calipers, and rotors (now cross drilled and slotted), including the rear shoes. All injectors have been replaced as have the plugs, wires, and coils. Most recently, I've had the valve cover gasket and timing chain cover gasket replaced. Of course, since I was "in there", I replaced the timing chain, rollers, guides, etc.. It was said "everything looks real good and clean". I've never had any engine or transmission troubles and would like to keep it that way. I'm considering a transmission fluid and or filter change but not both, given the age and miles. As much as I hate to say, I really can't think of anything else that could or should need to be done right now. With my age and miles and whats been invested, I'm sure I'll keep it for many more miles and years to come. I'd love to hear what all you guys think about my Frosty turtle. I think it's a keeper. :thumb:

It is not possible to change the transmission filter without changing the ATF.

It would be a good idea to drain and refill with a new filter. Be sure to use Dexron VI, not Dexron III that the auto parts store may try to tell you it came with, for half the price.

Or, a flush and fill. But be sure they use DEXVI!!!

If you go cheap, expect to be towed home!

Change the transmission fluid and the filter, if that makes you comfortable, however it's not mandatory according to the owners manual!
