Op states his thermostat is bad, and most likely the Dexcool is neglected, and I know the temperature in the DIC showing - - - - means the P0128 code is nigh, and that turns off the AC

 

it still shows me the temperatureThe a, c, just, it's warm now, there would be times where it would just be the dashes and the a c wouldn't work then and the temperature gauge was stuck to 0, but that didn't happen every time. But this now the temperature gauge and the digital part work fine, but the a c is not blowing cold

 

Back to basics, is the AC compressor turning? With the A.C. on, does the cooling fan (at the radiator) turn on? is the airflow out the vents good? (blocked cabin filter) does moving the temp knob make any difference? (blend door actuator)? Car moving or sitting in one spot? (A.C. will deactivate when accelerating) Put a thermometer in the air duct and see what the temp is, and use an A.C. pressure gauges to see what the system is doing..
Using one of hose quick charge units from Walmart can overcharge the system and cause it to run hot.

Changing the t-stat won't harm anything and is not a waste of time or money, at least it will fix the code and probably the AC. If it does not fix the AC then look for other probs, like cabin filter, fan etc.
