After one month .....

I am loving my HHR. Sorry no pictures up but it has been cold, windy, and rainy here. My beautiful black HHR is not looking its best right now so until it clears up and I get it clean no pictures.
I love the way it handles and I don't miss my v-8 truck. Did my Christmas shopping yesterday and had plenty of room for all the gifts. It has been great getting in and out of the holiday traffic.
One question about gas mileage: I have about 1600 miles on it and according to the DIC it is getting 24.6 mpg. That is up from 21.3 when I drove it off the dealership's lot. Will it continue to increase? I was hoping for at least 28 mpg.
Next thing is a personalized license plate. This great vehicle deserves something more than just random letters and numbers.

That's about what mine reads for intown driving. I would not expect to see 28+ except for the highway.

Well so much for living up to your user name.

As Hills asked, any ideas of what you want it to read?

I am into antiques and vintage stuff so I was thinking maybe "Retro" for a tag, but then I wanted to inclue the HHR name so I was looking for ideas including the name. I used picturetaker because I also scrapbook and take sports action photos for my school. "Scrappy" was also a choice for the tag. My son is also thinking on it for me.
I filled up with gas yesterday and figured my mileage with pencil and paper. My figures show almost 27 miles per gallon with most of the miles highway. That sounds much better to me. Is it possible for the DIC to be that much off?

You mileage will increase over time. I've had mine 18 months and now get about 24 mpg city without the A/C on. A few months ago I got 30 on a long trip but high winds make you lose 2-3 mpg. It's still much better than my minivan which topped out at 22 mpg.

Track you mileage the old fashion way, also. It varies from what the DIC is telling you.

Are you resetting the Ave. MPG on the DIC when you fill the tank? If not, try it and see what the #'s are.

I got 31 mpg on a 180 mile trip to Detroit and back the other day and ended up with 27.5 mpg average, including engine warm up time and a little city driving which is good this time of year as the cold weather always causes a loss in economy.

I was on a flat section of roadway and was able to get the thing to read up to 47 MPG. You can set it to run as aggregate from day one or you can get it to read "at the moment" gas mileage. Figuring it out on paper will net you more accurate usage per tankful
