Air bag removal (add radio controls)

Tried to remove air bag (know how) just want release! After 2 hours, don't know what else to do, even tried both sides at one time. no luck. Is there a trick to getting it to pop out when pushed in and held?

No trick really, I did one side first then the other.
Are you feeling the spring pressure as you poke through the holes? I cant remember precisely, but I think you have to push the spring 1/2" or so.

Whenever I push with the allen wrench I feel pressure and the air bag does move but the allen wrench will only go about 1/8 of an inch once resistance is felt and then I hold pressure and try pushing and pulling edges of air bag but no cigar. I have pushed with all my might once contact is made and the travel is no where near a half inch. Will try again til i get it!

It may be easier if you use 2 rods at the same time. Once you get it off, you will slap your forehead.

I remember that happening too. I think it can catch on the edge of the hole if you push on an angle toward the front of the wheel. Try again, you can get it.
These pics might help. You need to push farther on the bottom of the spring to release the airbag pin in the larger top hole.

Thanks for your advice and especially the pictures! The hole is about 45 degrees and when using allen wrench I tried to keep it at that same angle (straight in)? That one picture shows what I needed to see, Thanks again!

The airbag came out easy as pie! The harness had alot of terminals in the wrong position, mostly the cruise connector but I think I shorted out the radio switch in the process cause it had a couple of terminals that had to be switched also. Have to order a new switch on Monday and then I will be set!
