Antenna broke again

Has anybody else had probems with the antenna base cracking? My first one cracked-I thought I overtightened my shorty antenna. My dealer put in a new one, and I just noticed that it was cracked also. This time, I used special plastic crazy glue, then went over the entire base with epoxy. Next, I will sand it and paint it.

I've put 4 or 5 antenna's on my HHR (when trying samples for our shorty).

Never a problem - no cracks.

Wink

No problems here. You might be tightening a little too much. Don't worry, if someone steals it, Mike has enought to go round.

Dont know what I'm doing wrong? The second time around, I was careful not to overtighten-even used locktite so I would not use too much force. The dealer asked if I drove through a car wash (certainly not) or if I used a truck brush (guilty). Anyhow, with the epoxy shell, it should be strong.

I wish Chevy had used a window antenna in the HHR like they seem to have done for all the rest of their cars and trucks.

Watch out for the loctite. When we were designing a new product we found that loctite attacked a lot of plastics (caused crazing in the plastic that eventually resulted in failure).

When there is plastic nearby, we use a product called Vibra-tite that doesn't attack most plastics.

I remove antenna by fingers only. I hand tighten. No pliers, grips or...
It's made to be removed easily for the abomna... er... abumnable....er... abomnnabel.... er.... bad car washes.
