Anybody know of a V8/V6 transplant or a convertible conversion HHR?

The company "Year One" did a V8 conversion early on, seems GM told them to quit driving it around. GM ended up with the car for awhile and set the VIN so the car can never be licensed/titled and the car has since sold several times..... Just Google "Year One HHR" and you will get a few articles about it.

At least one person has cut the top off an HHR, but that's not really a convertible.

As far as I know there are no shops actively doing this type of conversion...... It would be a very involved project.

And I know Chevrolet Engineering fooled around with a test mule that had a 3.6 V6. It was an alternative to the current SS drive line. The idea fell thru (costs) and the vehicle was destroyed after some "fun" by the engineers.

What's up guys? Dead serious about converting to a v8 ls3 if I can keep it under 20 grand. I'm gonna have the extra cash once I sell my home. I know some of you guys have really looked deep into this and have a lot of details. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Not just looking for a drag car, want it road course worthy as well. I was thinking of getting a salvaged hhr, do all the modifications to it and then drop the body on it.

Could this be done for under 20k? New motor, transmission, computer, etc etc...plus you have to find a donor HHR.

You also have to maintain all the safety equipment required for your model year. I believe that is one reason the Year One model could never be licensed.

I think for $20k, you could find an used SS and still have money for tuning and stage upgrades and run as fast as a V8!
