Anybody rebuilt there Driver Seat with OEM Pad and Cushion Cover
 

I am wondering if any of you "Hi Milers" have had to rebuild your drivers Cloth seat?

If you like the Original seat material with its little quirks, it is slowly getting harder to get.

I personally like it even with it's faults.

The light gray is a bit of a problem in the maintenance but if you really like the material for looks or comfort you could do worse by trying to find something better overall.

One of my concerns is the pre-formed pad under the cushion. It will break down eventually. Probably quicker if you are heavy.

I know some of you have 200K or more miles on your HHR. I can't imagine the seat is still properly functioning let alone rips, tears, cigarette burns.

I am not sure how long GM is required to stock these types of parts.
Finding decent used covers is next to impossible and a used pad is out of the question for me.

I have not seen the hhr seat fall apart like seat I have seen in the past.

I think seats overall hold up better than the old days.

If it ever does fail you could always have the seat rebuilt at a trim shop if parts are not available.

Yes, I've recovered my seat cover, actually just replaced with like new take off covers , I got from a member here who removed them at low mileage.

As for the foam the upholstery shop will be able to address that, mine hasn't started to go south yet!

I just checked out a 2008 HHR SS with 220k miles on it and the drivers seat felt great.

I think you were lucky to find a set like new with the right color and fabric. That option will disappear as time goes on. It's very difficult right now when you look at all the variables in all the different available seats in the HHR's. There are the different colors thru out 2006-2011, and then you have, with power seat and without power seat.
If you look on CarGurus at the average mileage on even the 2011 HHR's it is obvious that most owners drive the miles onto these truckletts. "Like New" will not be there for long.

As for the aftermarket upholstery shops, I have had quite a few rebuilds and new remakes done both on Custom Cars and Pick Up Trucks over the years. I used the best available shops I could find. All with top recommendations.
There workmanship looked beautiful.
However ... None of the seats were ever the same or as expected. Its like a recipe. One little difference and it can change the whole outcome.
The later model cars and trucks that used the Preformed Foam pads are very hard to duplicate by aftermarket shops with various types of standard foams. If you buy an OEM Foam Pad, and Cushion Cover you know exactly what you will get. A brand new Chevy HHR Seat.
Some people may not be as fussy as me so it is all in what suits you.
I know what I like and I know why I like it.

There is one question still on my mind with the HHR pad. I have never had a seat apart to see what the pad is made of or how it is shaped. Knowing that might explain why the original seats hold up so well.

Ratrods: I don't believe you can compare an SS seat to a Standard seat.

I am suprised how well my driver seat is holding up as far as comfort
and the appearence i have put 120,000 on mine. Im in that seat
every night but on the other hand when i get in to my panel with just
55,000 i can tell the difference in the seat its almost as if its too hard.

Drivers side with power seat.

The difference is the make up of the SS Cushion cover and how it affects the feel of the seat. They both use the same Pad.

There is even a difference in feel between the LT Cloth and LT Leather seat.
