With the Big Oil Companies reaping huge profits every quarter for the last few years, how can they "NOT" be responsible, in large part, for the ridiculous prices at the pump
I agree on the oil companies reporting the massive profits being way wrong, and the goverment did look into it but found no wrongdoing. I personally don't believe the reports of no wrongdoing, but I don't think Bush is the reason. Government is full of people that made money off oil, coal, etc, but I don't base my beliefs on one thing.
Sorry, I just keep stirring the pot, don't I.

When I first started, basic cable was $7/month. When I quit about a year and a half later it was $23. Now I pay $150+ per month...
The oil industry is definitely full of lying greedy bloodsuckers but they are not the only ones... And I am too smart to get into a political discussion over who is to blame. I will say this though - I live in an oil town. There are oil wells and refineries running here 24 hours a day... But then there are also oil wells and refineries sitting dormant. Big oil says prices are high because they don't have enough refineries. I guess they just need to open the ones that are sitting closed. And supply and demand? You would think gas would be cheap here since there is no transportation cost. But we are consistently among the highest gas prices in the country. Go figure...
This is sort of a sidebar.
I don't understand the current pricing methods whereas different areas of the country or the county for that matter have different pricing. Down here in San Diego we have a big tank farm in the Valley, where all the gas is distributed from. I paid 3.45 for premium this weekend locally, yet up in Temecula it's 20 cents cheaper....where's the logic in that?

here in nc the excuse for that problem is "it cost the company more to truck it that far"
guess your truck comes in from the other side of temecula
Chevron has an oil tanker named the "Condoleezza Rice", Cheney's Halliburton is one of the world's largest providers of products and services to the oil and gas industries and the Bush family and the oil industry have a relationship dating back at least 50 years that is tied to the family’s wealth and power.
Consider this:
Oil & Gas contributions to political campaigns:
2000 Total Contributions: $34,349,831
2000 Donations to Democrats: $7,049,,406
2000 Donations to Republicans: $26,794,056
2002 Total Contributions: $24,923,759
2002 Donations to Democrats: $5,014,182
2002 Donations to Republicans: $19,899,682
2004 Total Contributions: $25,625,089
2004 Donations to Democrats: $5,015,385
2004 Donations to Republicans: $20,583,339
Through July 6, 2006:
2006 Total Contributions: $11,098,479
2006 Donations to Democrats: $1,812,282
2006 Donations to Republicans: $9,282,857
Hmmm... Any one else notice a trend?
I personally find it hard to support any politician lately - Republican or Democrat. It just seems like we are headed down the wrong path as a nation and as a world.
Maybe in 2006 I will do a write in ballot - Bryan Nesbitt for President!

Sure I see the trend: Reps are getting more of the PAC money than the Dems and it's easy to point the finger with that as evidence, but that to me that is not the smoking gun. Sure the man in charge is ultimately to blame, but my point is we would be in this situtation regardless of which party is in control of the oval office. The gov't regrdless of party is too weak IMO to control big oil.
