That was a member of the Cobalt site, he has unfortunately passed away, now there are others like Melling or Dorman or ZZP

Ok thank you
Can the bolt be replaced through the access hole or do you have to take the timing cover and everything off ?

As RJ shows in his thread yes, you can

for an even better protection against timing chain failure ZZP has this stronger front guide

It does not keep the guide bolt from breaking off. It replaces the upper guide bolt. It’s an imperfect workaround to deal with an upper guide bolt that’s prone to breaking, perhaps due to defective material on top of a marginal design.

Perhap more often, the guide breaks, and then the upper guide bolt is subjected to a thrashing by the chain. it might wear through, or it might come unscrewed and wreak havoc in the system. The massive “improved” bolt will at least stay intact a lot longer. Its location may be less precise, because it’s located by the access hole which, as designed, would need little location precision. But that doesn’t seem to be a problem.

There are other alternatives for the bolt. They are simply stronger. And ZZP offers a much stronger guide. Highly recommended.

I still installed the replacement bolt with the ZZP guide. Very sturdy.
