I had this problem with my Dodge Magnum as well... was it a hot rod or a station wagon.

Versatile vehicles like the HHR and the Magnum are just fricking awesome because it can be whatever you need today and something else tomorrow.

its a car. Think of it as a chevy cobalt drivetrain with a uniquely styled station wagon body plopped on top of it. It be curious to see if GM in the next coming years redesigns the HHR on a bigger platform, such as a malibu. Could you imagine a hhr with a 3.6 L v6 and awd as an option? Something the size of the chevy equinox they now have with that drivetrain but in a hhr wrapper...with a malibu style interior.

I refer to the HHR as

a unique, retro-styled wagon-everything the PT Cruiser is not.

.or...I just call it the HHR.

when asking my GF "which vehicle do we take?"

I dont say "the wagon" or "the truck" or the "gray car"...I say....the HHR.

I agree with your theory... The HHR could probably continue as a "Malibu wagon". Not as big as an Equinox, but as a Malibu "wagon" form.

I was driving around with my nephews (12 & 14), looking at cars and showed them the HHR SS and told them I might buy one.

Their first question was, is that an SUV? I said no. They asked if it was a truck and I said no. They finally asked, well what is it then. Not really knowing myself, but always wanting to impress them, I said, "it's a hot rod". They said, "Kewl!".

I think they'll enjoy telling their friends that their uncle drives a Hot Rod!

hmmm

yeah i get confused too. when i tell people, they don't know. when they look at it, i get different response: "oh it's an SUV..." OR "oh it's a retro wagon" OR "oh its a really really long car!"

Hahaha.
