You should try another code reader.
code reader I have specificaly call out cam sensor. Ford code p1142 calls out several things but not GM. Be that as it may but now things just got worse. I now have comm error with 2 different code readers. I will try yet a 3rd code reader later today.

Bad comm connection is usually because of a harness plug-in connection. Recheck your work and especially look for bent pins (as someone mentioned before)

thanks for the reply but now I'm getting comm errors when I insert a new scan tool with live data to check O2 sensor. I have tried several code readers but they all cause comm errors. I'm now trying to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery. Will report later.

Do you have power at the OBD port ? If not, that would show as a connection problem.
Fuse #29 is the power feed for the OBD port.

? Why are you trying to check live data on the O2 system ? If your car won’t run, no live data.

it was running at one point but I removed the ecu connector to confirm the 3 signals to the cam sensor and now he ecu is dead and causes comm errors to the OBD and code reader.

Then when you reconnected the ECM you either bent some pins or pushed some pins out the back of the connector. One or more pins are not connecting.

The last time I disconnected and reconnected my ECM, the "handle" on the connector would not go down all the way. I discovered that the gear mechanism had slipped a tooth. So the connectors were fully together, but I couldn't lock it in place.

Perhaps your connector has slipped a tooth in the other direction, so your handle is locked down, but the connection is not complete.
