Cargo Cover
Guys,
I did a search on the above and found nothing.
The wife would like to go shopping without having to lift (and limit) her raising the fake floor in the cargo area.
I have a Corvette Z06 that has one (idea) that is mesh and fixed in place. I had a GT Mustang that had a window roller shade affair which rolled in and out with the rear hatch when opened. I liked it because it was so "automatic".
I'd love to know how you hide taller things from view in the rear.
Thanks, QR

The cargo shelf can be angled. Using the bottom slots behind the back seats and the upper slots at the tailgate. Or it can be put in the raised postion (level w/ back seat) by using the upper supports all the way around.
what are you hiding in the back? I never worry about anything in the back of my car, the windows are tinted factory, and you'd have to try pretty hard to actually see in there.
I've used the shelf in the up position a few times, but that's about it. I have 2 snowboarded in the back of mine right now and don't mind at all.
But all in all, the hard cover is instad of the mesh pullout like the equinox, vue, all of those have. I'll say i prefer it too. not only does our shelf hide things if you want it too, but it also makes it easier to layer and pack the back.
So i think your main solutions for hiding tall things in the back or not dealing with the shelf at all would to be cover it with a blanket, limo tint it, or trade in for a panel :)

Thanks guys,
I was curious how you attacked it. I may try to retro fit the Vette mesh cover into the HHR for grins. The compliaint is the height limitation of the false floor.

I have my shelf in the upper position right now because I put Christmas presents in it while shopping last weekend. I know I won't always leave it that way because I get so much more road noise with it up.
If someone isn't selling one of those retractable covers, they're sure missing an opportunity to make money. I'd love to have one.

Guys,
Some good ideas floating around here.....but in reality we drive an inexpensive car and this is an area where corners were cut.
I have been taking notice of how others do it. In my latest Car and Driver Magazine there's a test of the Acura RSX. I saw a hard one piece flap that is removable and straps to the hatch door. Also the curtain rod thing or the mesh affair out of our Corvette may work. I am challenged by this and will take pictures of my "fix" when I do it.
I see the different built -in HHR ways of operating the cargo floor, but none of them does what we want. I want the height higher than what Chevy designs and so it is back to the drawing board here.
Thanks,
QR

If the shelf were to be any higher, said items would still be in view of the windows. You would then need something (limo tint) to keep eyes out, in which case then you wouldn't need to worry about "taller" items not being seen in the first place.
