Clutch life

I searched and did not see a posting so here is the question. Does anyone know how long a clutch will go before replacement? Has anyone replaced one and know how much it costs?

I am not having any problems, just curious. Yes I know clutch life will vary depending upon your driving style. More information will give a better picture.

This in a nutshell, is the answer. The last clutch I replaced was not due to wearing out, but due to the throwout bearing failing, and coating it with grease.

Keep your foot off of the clutch pedal unless you are actually using it, and you should never have to mess with one.

As per your signature, "2009 Chevy HHR LS 2.2L 5 speed manual. Blue Flash Metallic, Solid Rear Quarter panel (3k)", you had to replace your throwout bearing in you '09 at less than 3000mi? I would think if this is the case, it is due to a defect, not driving habits.

Perhaps you're referring to a different vehicle than your '09 HHR?

A better question might be: How long will my Hydraulic clutchs' con-centric slave last, before I have to tear it all apart for replacement, or pay an indy $$$$

That I will not miss with my automatic.. I had to do it twice on my former 98 S-10.......

The vehicle I had to do the clutch on due to the throwout bearing was a 1995 Daihatsu Hijet minitruck.

Its so variable, I don't think there is a real answer. The only clutch I have ever had to replace was one where the clutch cable failed, and allowed the clutch to slip as it was binding and would not fully engage the clutch. I have drivien some cars(well one) 140,000 miles, all on the original clutch. I can only hope the clutch in my current HHR will never be a problem. Bad driving habits can burn up a clutch in as little as a few thousand miles, or less. I was taught many years ago, get your left foot on the floor next to the clutch between every shift, and certainly when your cruising.

Last clutch I replaced was at about 196,000 miles. I expect somewhat similiar with the HHR.

Too many varibles to list.
